Figure Skating in the olympics is judged by 9 international skating championchip judges. Before the athletes start to skate their is a random draw to see what judges score will be the one they determine who wins the metal is. Figure Skating in the winter olympics is very difficult. There is many different tricks you can do. If you do not land the tricks then you will have points deducted from your score and it will be very difficult to gain them back. The skaters need to land as many of the tricks as they can in the gracefulles manner. Shen Xue and Zhao Hongo won the first gold metal in figure skating for China. After their amazing performance on the ice they said that this was their last performance because they want to make a family. This couple has made a big impact in figure skating. There is different types of skating.First there is singles skating.In singles skating, skaters must complete both a short program of time of 2 minutes 50 seconds, of required steps, jumps, spins and combinations. A longer free skating program is 4 minutes for ladies, and 4 minutes 30 seconds for men, both set to music. The free skate that is worth two-thirds of a skater’s final score, allows the athletes to demonstrate their creativity and how good they are at skating.Then there is pairs skating. The pairs event follows the same format as the singles, with a longer short program and a free skate that is 4 minutes 30 seconds long. In this event, however, one male and one female skater work together, doing lifts, throws and amazing jumps, spins and spirals put together with beautiful steps and other movements. Last but not least there is ice dance. Ice dance is performed by a couple and is based on their rhythm and interpretation of music. . One difference is ice dance does not include overhead lifts and jumps. Ice dance is similar to ballroom dancing.
